Environmental Counsel · International Advisory
Veld and Vale is a specialist international advisory built for organisations that already understand their obligations — and need them delivered. We work at the point where legal advice meets operational reality, overseeing international compliance, coordinating specialist teams, and developing the policy and research that turn complex requirements into workable outcomes across the energy, infrastructure, mining, construction and sports sectors.
We are not a litigation firm, and we are not a conventional consultancy carrying a fixed bench of generalists. Each engagement is led personally by our principal and resourced through a curated network of specialists — ecologists, climate scientists, economists and sector experts — assembled around the specific demands of your project. Large commercial clients gain the depth of a multidisciplinary team with the accountability of a single, senior point of contact.
The practice is headed by Samantha Martin, a specialist environmental, energy, construction and sports counsel with both a Swiss and South African technical, legal and advisory background. She holds an LLM in Environmental Law and an LLM in Global Sports Law from ISDE, alongside Diplomas in Mining, International Environmental, Carbon Tax, OHS Auditing and IP Law. She is a registered Arbitrator and Mediator with the Arbitration Foundation and a registered member of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce.
Her work is grounded in practical, cross-border delivery: developing transboundary contracts for wildlife reserves and co-management agreements, building models for Biodiversity Offsets, and conducting research on African Environmental Compliance and Monitoring Units. It is this combination — senior counsel experience, operational fluency, and an international network — that allows Veld and Vale to support major organisations where advice alone is not enough.
